Tilt Base connects the AI platform your organisation already uses, ChatGPT, Claude or Microsoft Copilot, to Tilt Legal's managed legal skills and your organisation's own skills. A skill is a set of instructions, references and templates that guides the AI through a piece of legal work in the way an experienced practitioner would: preparing an interview summary, drafting allegations, building an evidence matrix, writing an investigation report or drawing a bill of costs.
You keep working in your AI platform. Connect Tilt Base once, then ask for the work. When a request calls for one of your organisation's skills, the AI retrieves the current version from Tilt Base, with your organisation's preferences and files, and follows it. Tilt keeps its skills current and your administrators publish your organisation's changes, so every update reaches everyone on their next request, with nothing to install.
## Who can use Tilt Base
Tilt Base is available to organisations that have an agreement with Tilt Legal. Your organisation's administrators choose which skills to publish in Tilt Base. Members connect Tilt Base once, with the account their organisation set up for them, and their AI can then use every skill the organisation has published. Until your organisation publishes, there is nothing to use, and the AI will say so. There is no public sign-up.
## What Tilt Base does and does not do
Tilt Base provides skill instructions and supporting files to your AI. It does not receive your documents, your conversations or your recordings: your AI does the work where you already use it, and recordings for transcription go directly to the transcription provider. Tilt Base records which skills are used, by whom, for which matter and at which version, so your organisation can see how it is being used. [How Tilt Base handles your data](https://tilt.legal/docs/tilt-base/how-tilt-base-handles-your-data) explains this in more detail.
Tilt Base is a tool for legal work, not legal advice. The skills reflect careful practice, but what your AI produces still needs review by someone qualified to rely on it.
## Where it works best
Many skills work in an ordinary chat. Skills that fill document templates or run scripts need an agentic workspace that can save files and run tools, such as ChatGPT Work, Claude Cowork or Copilot Cowork. If a task needs one, the AI will say so.
